A headtorch that still has charge when you get there
We got sick of reaching for a headtorch and finding it flat because something pressed a button in the pack. So the clip on ours covers the ON buttons whenever it is stowed.
It sounds like a small thing. It is the difference between having light when you arrive and not having it, and it is the failure we heard about most with every other torch we tried.

It charges your phone, too
The USB output means the torch doubles as a powerbank. Not a gimmick — a dead phone three days into a trip is a genuine problem, and this is already in your bag.
Enough to get a phone back on its feet for maps, a photo, or a call you actually need to make — 1800mAh on the Standard and Display Stock, 3000mAh on the Premium. We would rather build it in than have you carry another brick.

Slide the clip off and stick it to the car
There is a rare earth magnet underneath the clip. Bonnet, tray, tailgate, boat rail, tool box — anything steel.
That is properly hands free, without wearing it. Changing a tyre at night, cooking on the tailgate, or working in the engine bay, you put the light where the work is instead of where your head happens to be pointing.

Charges with the cord you already own
USB-C, the same cable as your phone. Nothing proprietary to lose, and nothing to hunt for in a drawer eighteen months from now.
The head tilts through a wide range too, so you can aim the beam at what your hands are doing rather than at the horizon. Sounds obvious. Plenty of torches still get it wrong.

IP66 — rain, spray, and dropping it in the drink
Getting wet is not the end of this torch. Fishing, boating, or walking back to camp in weather that turned, it keeps working.
We tested it rather than writing a rating on a box and hoping.

Spot, spread, or both at once
The spotlight is an XP-G putting out 500 real lumens — real, not the inflated figures you will see on cheaper torches, and not the weaker XP-C most of them actually use. Twist the lens clockwise to throw the beam further, anticlockwise to open it out.
The COB spreadlight floods everything close in, which is what you want for camp, cooking and rigging. Run either on its own, run both together, and dim both. Most torches make you pick one and live with it.

A motion sensor you can switch off
Wave your hand and the light comes on. Excellent when you are cleaning fish, carrying gear, or your hands are wet and covered in bait.
It is also maddening when you do not want it — reaching past it and having the light fire every time. So ours turns off completely. Some people love the sensor, some hate it, and you should get to decide which you are rather than us deciding for you.

Four ways to keep the insects off you
Warm XP-E gives the best vision while pulling far fewer bugs than white light. Red COB is good stealth and easy on your night vision. Green LED is maximum stealth, the fewest bugs and the longest runtime at 36 hours.
Run red and green together and you get the best of both — that is our favourite, and we have not found another headtorch that offers it.

Case and charger in the box
The Premium comes with the upgraded hard case, and a USB-C charging cord is included.
Wrap the strap around the lamp before it goes in and the lens is protected, everything sits snug, and it is not rolling loose around the bottom of a drawer or a drybag.

130 grams, and a strap that survives the sun
The strap is UV resistant so it will not go brittle and chalky after a season in the sun, and it is replaceable if it ever does.
At 130 grams it is light enough to run in, with no bulky battery pack strapped to the back of your head — which is the part most head torches get wrong the moment you move quickly.

Which one should you buy?
Standard — 1800mAh. Every feature described above. Good quality LEDs, standard magnet, hard case not included, 3 year warranty. For most people this is the one.
Premium — 3000mAh. The longest runtime by a distance, upgraded LEDs and circuit board, a stronger neodymium magnet that grips properly on a vertical surface, the upgraded hard case, and a fully adjustable overhead strap. Same 3 year warranty as the Standard. This is the one we carry ourselves.
Display Stock — 1800mAh. Units we have used on display at our shows, out of the box and repackaged, in full working order and discounted.

How to use it
Left button scrolls the spread lights: high, low, red, strobe, off.
Right button scrolls the spotlights: high, low, warm, off. Twist the lens to zoom.
Left and right work at the same time, so you can run spotlight and spreadlight together.
Middle button is the motion sensor. Click it until you reach the light you want, then wave your hand in front to turn it on and off hands free. To stop the sensor, either use the left or right buttons normally, or keep clicking the middle button until the lights are off.
Green LED comes on by holding the right button for three seconds. It is the longest lasting light on the torch. Combine it with the red COB — left button, three presses — for the best bug-free setup we have found.
Removing the clip: tilt the lamp fully forward, hold the bottom of the clip, and slide it off. That is how you reach the magnet.
Packing it away: wrap the strap neatly around the lamp. It protects the lens and it fits the case properly.

Why we built it
We were tired of head torches that were excellent at one thing and useless at everything else. Bright but flat in an hour. Long lasting but too dim to be worth carrying. Hands free but with a sensor you could not switch off.
So we built the one that does not compromise: bright, long lasting, waterproof, magnetic, rechargeable, and light enough to forget you are wearing.
If you find a head torch that does all of it better, tell us. We have been looking for years.
